Upgrading from Reservation 7 Template to Reservation 8.5.3 Template

Hello. We have been running the version 7 template for a LONG time, but now that we are fully at 8.5.3, I wanted to ask for a best recommended practice for upgrading the template to the latest version to get the best capabilities for us. Do we just do a refresh of the design template with the 8.5.3, is there more to it, etc?
